Mechanistic explanation for differences between catalytic activities of dissolved and aerogel immobilized Cu(II) cyclen

چکیده

The copper(II) complex of 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane [Cu(II)-cyclen] was covalently immobilized in mesoporous silica aerogel. This immobilization significantly alters the catalytic activity Cu(II)-cyclen when referenced to dissolved oxidation phenol by H2O2 aqueous solution. In order understand this phenomenon, functionalized aerogel characterized scanning electron microscopy (SEM), N2 porosimetry, small angle neutron scattering (SANS), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and paramagnetic resonance (EPR). Aerogel morphology is typical aerogels, coordination mode Cu(II) well-related but not identical solution phase Cu(II)-cyclen. mechanisms reactions involving were explored fine kinetic experiments using capillary electrophoresis (CE) on-line UV–vis spectrophotometry. Hydroquinone, pyrocatechol related benzoquinones identified as main intermediates both reaction systems. A detailed model postulated based on global data fitting, which clearly highlights mechanistic differences two Interestingly, activation catalyst more effective case aerogel, total conversion slower due hindered mass transport compared

Development and mechanistic explanation.

Within modern philosophy of biology the topic of mechanistic explanation has become a central theme for critical discussion. The neo-mechanical philosophers have developed accounts that emphasize intervention and manipulation as the central epistemic tools that allow gaining epistemic access upon the mechanisms and have argued that the processes of inter-field integration across disciplines can...

Diagramming Phenomena for Mechanistic Explanation

As part of an inquiry into how diagrams figure in scientific practice, we examine diagrams that represent phenomena involving circadian rhythms. Different diagrammatic formats are developed and revised over time to best represent different phenomena for which explanations will be sought. Some diagrams are less transparent than others, so learning is often required in order to see the informatio...

Rethinking Mechanistic Explanation

Philosophers of science principally associate the causal-mechanical view of scientific explanation with the work of Peter Railton and Wesley Salmon. In this paper I shall argue that the defects of this view arise from an inadequate analysis of the concept of mechanism. I contrast Salmon’s account of mechanisms in terms of the causal-nexus with my own account of mechanisms, in which mechanisms a...

Synthesis and antimalarial activities of cyclen 4-aminoquinoline analogs.

In an attempt to augment the efficacy of 7-chloro 4-aminoquinoline analogs and also to overcome resistance to antimalarial agents, we synthesized three cyclen (1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane) analogs of chloroquine [a bisquinoline derivative, 7-chloro-4-(1,4,7,10-tetraaza-cyclododec-1-yl)-quinoline HBr, and a 7-chloro-4-(1,4,7,10-tetraaza-cyclododec-1-yl)-quinoline-Zn(2+) complex]. The bisquino...
